Dayton, a friendly town of 2500 residents, incorporated in 1880 as a
bustling riverside settlement. Today Dayton is proud of its rich history
and focuses on its small town values. Nestled in the heart of the
Yamhill Valley (within the Willamette Valley) among stunning
agricultural scenery, Dayton is conveniently located about 25 miles west
of Portland, 20 miles north of Salem, and 8 miles east of McMinnville.
The
downtown is anchored by Dayton Courthouse Square. Also known as Pioneer
City Park, it is distinguished by Douglas firs, a bandstand gazebo, and
the historic Fort Yamhill Blockhouse. Modern play equipment and new
restrooms were constructed in 2009.
Walking around the downtown
core you may notice all late 1800’s architecture. Dayton boasts more
homes per capita on the National Historic Register than any other city
in the Yamhill Valley. Amble along Ferry Street until it becomes a
suspension footbridge that crosses the lazy Yamhill River.
Youʼll find successful businesses in the downtown core on Ferry Street.
The Joel Palmer House
A
nationally acclaimed restaurant named for one of Daytonʼs founders, is
the ideal setting for a special occasion meal.
The Blockhouse Cafe
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Located at 302 Ferry Street in Dayton.
