The Dayton School District is located in western Oregon’s Mid-Willamette Valley, between McMinnville and Newberg, and serves approximately 1,000 students between the two-academic campuses; the Dayton Grade School and the Dayton Junior/ Senior High School.  The two campuses are located in the heart of Dayton, OR along the main arterial road, Ferry Street. The school district draws people into the community who want a strong educational system with a rural sense of caring and teamwork.

Dayton Portrait of A Graduate - 6 defining qualities

The Dayton community and school-district staff collaborated during the 2023-24 school year to define our "Portrait of a Graduate". A typical graduating student will exhibit these six defining qualities: Optimism, Empathetic, Resilient, Driven, Collaborative, and Curious.

Original Dayton High School plan

The first public school in Dayton was built in the 1850. It was located between 4th and 5th Street along Alder. A building for the "upper-grades" was not built until 1895. The building taught grades 1 through 10. The current Dayton High School was constructed in 1936. Its original brick facade (pictured) is on the National Register of Historic Places Collection. Dayton Grade School was built in 1955. Both buildings have undergone a number of repairs and renovations. The most recent completed in 2022.
